“I was grabbed out of my house.” Chel waved her hands in the air, trying to look as non threatening as possible and get Karmine to drop her guard.
“So was I, because I have some sort of rare bloodline.” Karmine’s critical glare did not diminish. “What’s so special about you that they picked you up? You’re too old …”
“Too old?” Chel’s voice quavered.
“Yes.” The shocked look on Chel’s face seemed to soften Karmine. Her tone lost some of its bite. “Yes. They never pick up adults, just young kids.”
