I love you. Lexx spoke over the relay as he stopped walking, letting go of Chel’s hand to step behind her. She paused as well, leaning back into Lexx’s chest as he affectionately nuzzled her hair. I want to spend my life with you. The words flowed softly through her head, full of love and warmth.
Chel closed her eyes, Lexx’s hand sliding down her side, pulling her closer as he shifted to rub his cheek against hers. I want you. And he pressed in for a kiss, which Chel met eagerly, glad to have a little distance between them and the game for however much time they had.
I can’t say anything negative, and I do love him. Even as they kissed, Chel’s mind wandered to other concerns. I will just have to see where it goes.
“I love you too,” whispered Chel in between kisses, enjoying the brief, private moment. Someone would come along at any moment to ruin it. That’s just the way things were.

One of the things I love the most about this series is the sheer awkwardness between Lexx and Chel. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but it just makes so much more sense than a standard love story. They love each other, but they’re still figuring out how exactly a relationship works and it’s adorable.
Also, it’s both funny and sad that Chel fully expects the nice moment to get ruined soon!
