Day 26 Part 4 Pg 3

“We’ll send you tickets to the premiere.”  Korbaen joked as a voice in his ear fed him quick responses.  “Front row seats.”  He was careful not to deviate from the script or what he was told unless he understood what he was saying and he was quickly catching on.  He repeated the words with a chuckle as instructed. “Those are the worst seats!”  The host groaned, still retaining his smile. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kickstarter thinking.  (I've been a bit busy with end of the year stuff for Kim and doctor visits and other fun stuff.  Catching up, but now my laptop is not cooperating.  It's slowing down.) Ok, next Kickstarter will be for a Siphon charm and a Chalupa charm.  These will be double sided acrylic charms at 1.5" or 2" in size.  Zeta and Epsy will be the one after this one. Now, thinking about anything additional I can do.  Since I can't do dice, they're too expensive, I can do a Stealth challenge coin.  A 1.5" coin would cost $100 for the mold fees, and be $5.27 each for casting with a few spot colors on one side.   The Kickstarter tier would be $12, including shipping anywhere.  It will be metal, unique and a nice little collector/support item.  I can also get them numbered for a little more, but for 50, it'd total out to $263.50  For 100, it's $419.  One side would have It's not Fair and an image of Stealth.  The other wide would have the full level Stealth's head facing forward. The other possibility is tshirts.  I would likely do two or three designs.  One with Siphon, one with Chalupa and an It's Not Fair! shirt.  Thoughts and interest?  Of course, if anyone can find a way for me to do dice in a way that's reasonable, I'd be for that. - Tiff

  1. I’m not sure what the cost breakdown for the dice you were looking at were, but the cost breakdown for what the guy who did the Glitch Giant Dice IndieGoGo campaign look similar to the costs you’re listing for the challenge coin, and I feel dice go better with the comic’s theme 😛 (I would certainly go for dice over a coin, esp. if you’re going with a functional die.) Colored dice apparently cost more, though, and I’m not sure how crazy you are about white dice. Maybe ask him about his contacts anyway? In the IndieGoGo he mentions that he is willing to share contact info for other people to get the dice on their own separately or after the campaign.

    1. I had the dice at a smaller price point and people complained they were too expensive for dice. 🙁 And that was for swirls with a single gold imprint on two sides. They cost me $1.20 to get made. Asking $5 was noted as being too much when people could buy them for 50 cents and that killed my enthusiasm to do them.

      1. I think you should give the dice another go on Kickstarter, even if they’re only an incentive. You could even have it so you could tack on another 5 dollars to other tiers to get the dice. You’re comic is about dice, and 5 dollars to that custom of one is NOT that bad. I would have pledge more in the IndieGoGo campaign if I wasn’t dumping all my money into a wedding. Otherwise, you could go another route with dice, and offer custom dice bags.

I also think the idea of a book is a good one. I’d suggest something different than the book you’re already planning. Why not something like a database of all the dice in the comic? Or maybe just Lexx’s dice. Something like their first and final forms together, names, stats, number of sides. Maybe the different DNA that has gone into them. These are likely things you already have written down, or in your head, and would just need to be a on a flat colored background with a picture or two.
Of course, there’d possibly be some spoilers, but some people would in fact pay for that.

        Or oh! A calender!

Okay, I need to stop suggesting things I can’t pay for until the end of the month.

        1. I might. 😀

Actually, the Epsy and Zeta kickstarter is to have art tiers and possibly a book. It’s kinda themed for supporters to get their own hatchling on an art card. 😉

        2. A really good t shirt would be to have all the dice(names, faces) in column form on a t shirt. I would pay ten dollars for that, or double. 😀

  2. At the movies front row seats suck… At a play they may be nice but front row seats at the movies are some of the last seats to be filled. Mid to back row seats in the middle are the best.

  3. What about fridge magnets? OOTS did a good one, if you are looking for an example of what I mean. Anyway I’m guessing that a fridge magnet would be more usefull than a faux challenge coin.

    1. I can do 2.25 inch round magnet buttons. 😀 Inexpensively.

  4. Why not do a kickstarter for your book? Maybe make the charms/magnets/whatever as a stretch goal reward or a low level pledge?

I ask because I’m not interested in collecting little knickknacks like that, but I’m always up for getting the printed works of my favorite webcomics. Sure, it would require higher numbers of people to pledge, and thus harder to make successful, but…you’ll never know unless you try. Plus, if nothing else, it’d probably get you new readers just from people scanning the comic section in kickstarter.

    1. The book isn’t ready yet and won’t be until the fall.
