Meanwhile, on the Rift, Lexx stared through the window in the main living area. It was lonely … and cold out there. The chill of the rift had been more noticeable than usual when he had arrived earlier. It had seemed to get colder as time passed. Lexx had sent his torn clothes to the incinerator, cleaned himself up and redressed in a flowing black outfit with gold trim. He dressed for his mood. The outfit covered him from the chin down in nothingness. The dice were sleeping again, down in the dome. All except for Swiftpaw and Drift. These two were sitting behind Lexx like guarding sentinels. They were waiting or news. "At least you were able to capture Skri when you came back," Swiftpaw tried to be positive. The Rishan did not respond. "Lexx?" "Chel was hurt," Lexx muttered. "It was an accident. Skri has very sharp claws, she does!" "By my own dice…" "… yes … but accidents happen. We-" Swiftpaw stumbled vocally over the right thing to say. He really wanted to be helpful. "Accidently injuring me is one thing … harming Chel is unforgiveable," Lexx growled angrily. He had probably been too harsh on Skri. The dice had been apologetic, but Lexx was too upset to listen to her and had put her into dice form immediately. "I should not be putting her in danger. She's only a human girl. She's only human … I can't permit her to accompany me on any future captures. It is too dangerous." Lexx trailed off sinking back into his silent meditation. He cared too much about Chel to allow her to get hurt and he was beginning to understand that for all his abilities, it wasn't enough to keep her safe. Instead, it only further endangered her.
