Nearby, Epsy stood over her eggs, shielding them from the rain with her body. She was at ease, but watchful. Six creamy white, oblong eggs rested in the still warm leaves and fronds that she and Zeta had gathered and let soak up the sun. The warm rain drained quickly off the mound and seeped out of the rocks surrounding the nest. She lowered herself over the eggs, her tail twitching in preparation for adding to the small clutch. It was all instinct. Nothing else mattered now but her nest. The game was forgotten as well as anything else in her world. "That's six eggs." Energy whispered to Drift and Swiftpaw. The trio were hidden close enough to see Epsy, downwind so that she wouldn't be disturbed by their presence. "Lexx is not going to be happy. Let's go." Drift and Swiftpaw stared curiously at Epsy and her eggs. "If Epsy sees us, she's going to rip into us." Energy said after a moment. He didn't want to leave the two smaller dice by themselves. "I just wanted to see the eggs." Drift was sitting up on his haunches to peer over the foliage that concealed them. "Mmm ... eggs." Swiftpaw licked his jaws. His ears quivered at the thought of the delicious contents. "I'd stay away from those eggs if I were you." Energy quickly squashed Swiftpaw's thoughts. "I know. I know." Swiftpaw crouched down, swiveling his ears back in remorse. He would love to have just one of those yummy eggs. All three turned their heads in the direction of a cracking sound. It wasn't lightening. Someone was coming. Energy gritted his teeth together, arcing his neck in an effort to see who would dare come barging into the clearing with Epsy in such a fragile state of mind.
