Letting go was difficult, but necessary. Hitting the sand hurt. Thankfully, he fell against a slope in dry sand. A cloud enveloped him as he flipped several times before coming to a landing on his stomach. He flexed his wings. His skin stung, but nothing was broken. Don’t get up to fast. Let them think I’m worn out. Lexx slid his hands beneath his body. Slowly he pushed himself up. Let them get close. Vest and Giant landed nearby, their leathery wings whispering against the air. They moved warily, their boots sliding in the sand betraying their position. Their breathing was heavy, labored. Grains of sand fell from his hair. A few minutes were left. With the way they fought, he would have to kill them to end the battle. The only reason they hadn’t attacked was that they were waiting for a possible yield. Which would never come. Now’s the time to talk.
